Vacancy postdoc researcher

The Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience is an institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. The Netherlands Brain Bank, a department of the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience, has a vacancy for a Postdoc Researcher (m/f), 0.8 ‐ 1.0 fte.

The Netherlands Brain Bank (NBB) is an internationally oriented organisation that collects and supplies human brain tissue for scientific research worldwide. Within the framework of the NBB, a project funded by NWO has been initiated: a national brain donor program for psychiatric disorders (‘NBB‐Psy’). The aim of NBB‐Psy is to obtain brain tissue of 7 different psychiatric disorders, their family members and non‐demented controls.

The NBB‐Psy tissue will be enriched by isolating RNA, DNA, glial cells and by generating various cell lines. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up methods for these isolations as well as for their implementation and realization during upcoming NBB‐Psy autopsies. He/she will also manage the dissemination of the NBB‐Psy material to (inter)national researchers. A research technician will assist with the laboratory activities. Parallel to setting up and running this NBB‐Psy facility, the postdoc researcher is expected to initiate a research project with Psy‐brain tissue. The development of the methods for isolation and characterization of the NBB‐Psy enrichments and the research project will be performed in close collaboration with the Neuroimmunology Research Group (IMM) at the NIN, which focuses on studying primary human microglia and gene expression in human brain tissue.

Requirements

  • PhD in Neuroscience
  • Experience with cellular and molecular techniques
  • Interest in both coordinating tasks and fundamental brain tissue research
  • Affinity with psychiatric disorders
  • Fluent in Dutch and English (spoken and written)
  • Excellent social and communicative skills
  • “Team player”

Salary

Depending on education and relevant work experience, the gross monthly salary based on fulltime employment varies between € 2,744 (salary scale 10) and € 4,374 (salary scale 11), in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU), excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end‐of‐year bonus. There are excellent fringe benefits.
