BEARS

05/08/2014

In het video ‘Autism research takes brains’ dr. Schumann tells us about the American brain donor program for autism, called BEARS. She answers the question why brain donation for research is important in seeking the causes of autism and other severe psychiatric disorders. She also explains why imaging studies and (genetic) blood research are insufficient in finding the answers. If we would like to know what is different in the brains of people with autism and other psychiatric disorders, we must look in the brain. Dr. Schumann elaborates on the possibilities of research with human brain tissue research and emphasizes the necessity to increase the availability of human brain tissue for research purposes.
